Position Description


Performs the administrative duties of planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating special development efforts. Responsibilities may include: cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate support for the TTU/System; adherence to the prospect management system; and plans, coordinates and evaluates development goals. Work is performed under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative.

About the Department and/or College

The Texas Tech University Office of Advancement works with a broad array of university supporters to identify and match opportunities at the university with the interests of donors, ultimately facilitating impact in higher education that leads to endless possibilities. Our professional fundraising team members are responsible for building meaningful relationships with donors through consistent interaction and meaningful visits that move them through the donor cultivation cycle.
The Office of Advancement is searching to fill a position within the Texas Tech University Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering. The Whitacre College of Engineering is one of the original academic areas of Texas Tech which opened in 1925. Today, there are seven departments which offer 9 bachelor's, 13 master's and eight doctoral degrees as well as two graduate certificate programs. Our mission is to educate young people to solve problems that help society through the application of math, science and ingenuity. Our supporters and donors consistently invest approximately $10M a year to impact our students and assist faculty research solutions to the largest challenges in society.



Major/Essential Functions

  • Qualify, manage, and build meaningful relationships with a portfolio of 100-150 donors whose philanthropic interests align with the University's strategic vision.
  • Develop robust fundraising proposals, solicit donors for philanthropic gifts, and secure major gifts as outlined in annual plans.
  • Meet goals for key metrics such as substantial contacts, visits, portfolio penetration, and solicitations as established each fiscal year in annual plans.
  • Adhere to procedures and best practices regarding documenting donor interactions, annual giving, donor engagement and stewardship, alumni relations, events, gift processing, and utilizing the donor alumni database.
  • Represent Texas Tech University, the TTU Office of Advancement, and the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering at university, alumni, and community events in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a collaborative culture and serve as a great colleague within the TTU Office of Advancement, with TTUS Institutional Advancement, within the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, and across the University in an effort to strengthen the philanthropic culture at TTU.
  • Assist your direct supervisor (and Dean when appropriate) in developing a college, school, or unit based annual plan for the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering that aligns with the strategic vision of Texas Tech University and the TTU Office of Advancement.
  • Manage a college, school, or unit budget specific to advancement opportunities (travel, events, stewardship, etc.), and be a good steward of those resources provided by the University, college, and donors.
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • A good knowledge of all aspects of fundraising including major giving, planned giving, campaign management, annual giving, donor engagement, and strategic planning.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing and presentation skills.
    • Exceptional initiative and the ability to work with limited direct supervision.
    • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.


      Required Qualifications

      Bachelor's degree plus one (1) year development or sales experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience equal to five (5) years.


      Preferred Qualifications

      One year of experience in university or non-profit development/fundraising.
